Spartans Sweep Pioneers in AMC Matchup- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 9/25/24
Playing their second road conference game in two days, Crowley's Ridge Volleyball dropped to 1-1 in the American Midwest Conference as Missouri Baptist University swept the Lady Pioneers. The Pioneers now sit 4-5 on the year. Sets went as follows; 25-15 MBU, 25-18 MBU, and 25-7 MBU.
St. Louis, MO- Coming off a conference sweep in yesterday's contest against Hannibal-LaGrange, the Lady Pioneers had the tables turned as volleyball powerhouse Missouri Baptist University handled the Lady Pioneers in three sets. In the matchup, the Lady Spartans never relinquished the advantage by leading CRC throughout all three sets. In the opening frame, CRC's Alexis Weirich and Brooklyn Cross combined for a game-evening block at the 10-point mark but that would be the closest the Ridge got to snatching the lead from MBU. Quickly after the Pioneer defensive stand the Spartans rolled out a 12-2 run en route to their double-digit point victory. In the second set, the Lady Pioneers produced more offensively as CRC delivered its highest kill effort of the matchup along with matching the Spartans on five separate occasions, but grievously were unable to overthrow the Spartans as MBU emerged on top after every tiebreaker serve. Missouri Baptist pulled away from CRC at the 11-point mark with the help of a 6-1 and 5-1 run, sealing the fate for the Pioneers. In set three MBU left little doubt as the hosting team took an overwhelming lead with a 13-1 run to start the set. The Spartans would go on to control the rest of the game, gliding to an 18-point win over the Pioneers.
Paige Glenn led the team with 6 kills. Brooklyn Cross followed with 5 kills while collecting 3 total blocks. Jillian Glasgow led with 9 assists and added 4 digs in the loss.
