Hornets Swarm Pioneers

Hornets Swarm Pioneers- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 9/24/22

Crowley's Ridge wrapped up their weekend in St. Louis earlier today with a match up against Harris-Stowe University.  After falling to University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy and Calumet College of St. Joseph on Friday, September 23rd,  CRC was still seeking their first win over the weekend. The Hornets of Harris- Stowe University would not aid the Pioneers efforts as they would defeat CRC in straight sets. (15-25, 13-25, and 19-25)

Set one, the Pioneers would see a strong hitting performance from the Hornets. Harris- Stowe blasted a 16 kill set on a .345 hitting percentage to best the Pioneers defense. Sophomores Paige Glenn, Jadyn Hesse and Alexis Weirich would rally a 4 points for the Pioneers on three kills and one service ace late in the set, but it wouldn't be enough as the Hornets attack was too heavy. Pioneers fall in set one 15-25.

Set two the Pioneers would see much of the same from the Hornets. They would bring a 14 kill set on a .258 hitting percentage. Again, sophomore Paige Glenn would  try to rally the Pioneers but this time her partner would be Junior Emi Elms. The duo would combine for 3 kills early in the match, trying to spark some energy into the Lady Pioneers. Their efforts would be in vain as the Hornets would shut down the Pioneer attack, holding the CRC to a set score of 13-25

With morale down on the CRC side in set three, the Hornets would show their highest kill set of the match slamming 18 kills on a .317 hitting percentage. Even with this high performance from the Hornets,  the CRC defense would step up with freshmen Kinley Matlock leading the charge. Matlock would end the Match with 19 digs allowing the Pioneers to post their highest set of the match of 19 points, from which 10 points came from a 10 kill performance from the Pioneers. Even with this effort Harris-Stowe would win the set and match with a final score of 25-19.

Leaders:

Sophomore Paige Glenn led with a double digit performance in kills (10), Sophomore Jadyn Hesse led in assists (12), Freshman Kinley Matlock led in digs (19).
