Pioneers Handed First Home Loss

Pioneers Handed First Home Loss – Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 9/19/22

The Lady Pioneers hosted Lyon College tonight for their third home game of the season. The Pioneers have been seeking rhythm on the road, and were looking to bounce back at home being 2-0 on their home court. Lyon College had different plans as they broke the Pioneer's home winning streak in a three set sweep over CRC (25-9, 25-15, and 26-24).

CRC fell behind in set one allowing Lyon to go on an 8-0 run before CRC would manage its first point of the match. This would come from a block by sophomore Paige Glenn and junior Brooklynn Passmore. The point would not yield any momentum for the Pioneers, as the Lady Scots would go on another 6 point run extending their lead to 15-2. The gap would stand as the Scots defeated the Pioneers in set one, 25-9.

Set two, the Pioneers would see improvement. CRC would start slow, but would rally and cut the deficit to 13-9 with a kill from sophomore Jadyn Hesse. However, CRC would not be able to close the gap. Lyon would keep the Pioneers at bay with nothing less than a 4 point lead for the rest of the match. Lyon would go on a 9-3 run ensuring the set, and taking it with a final score of 25-15.

Set three, the Pioneers would seem to finally link a few things together. Trading points, the Pioneers would answer every Scot point with one of their own. CRC would get its break late in the set, taking their first lead of the night 16-15, on a service ace by sophomore Alexis Weirich. CRC would then go on its biggest run of the night stretching their lead over the Scots to 23-17. Crowley's Ridge would then struggle as Lyon would rally three consecutive points forcing a CRC timeout cutting their lead down to three. When play resumed Lyon would add to their rally with three more unanswered points tying the game 23-23. Lyon would find the holes in the Pioneer defense and finish the match, winning the third set 26-24.

CRC Leaders:

Junior Emi Elms and Sophomore Paige Glenn would lead the Pioneers with (4) kills each, Sophomore Jadyn Hesse led with (15) assists, Freshmen Kinley Matlock led with (14) digs.

Pioneers next game will be in St. Louis, MO in a Tri Match with University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy along with Calumet College of St. Joseph on Friday, September 23rd, 2022.
