Crowley's Ridge Marks First Home Victory of the Season
PARAGOULD, AR - The Lady Pioneer volleyball team came to play last night as they defeated the Mustangs of Central Baptist in four sets: 25-19, 25-12, 13-25, 25-21.
Over the past two years, Crowley's Ridge has posted a 1-3 record in previous match-ups against Central Baptist. Last night, the Pioneers took one step closer to evening that score with the win.
On Tuesday night, it was evident that the young Pioneers had learned several lessons from their tri-match on Saturday. The team was more aggressive at the net and took advantage of more kill opportunities. Sophomore Ashley Pyeatt led the team with 13 kills and a 0.394 kill percentage. Freshman Olivia Deckelman was not far behind with nine kills that continued to give CRC the push they needed.
The Lady Pioneers held a strong team defensive front on most possessions. Freshman Kaitlyn Perkins led the charge with 21 digs and fellow freshman Claire Johnson etched a double-double with 12 assists and 13 digs. Johnson acted as a spark plug for the Pioneers late in the fourth set when the team needed an extra burst of energy to close out the match. Johnson and freshman Bailey Tosh gave Crowley's Ridge several key service aces down the stretch - Johnson (four SA) and Tosh (three SA).
Crowley's Ridge will look to continue the momentum at the Philander Smith College Tournament starting this Friday at 2:00 PM against Jarvis Christian College. The rest of their tournament schedule is:
- Friday, August 31 vs. Tougaloo College @ 6:00 PM
