Lady Pioneers Fall to Stars
COLUMBIA, MO - The Lady Pioneers of Crowley's Ridge College lost to the Stars of Stephens College on a last second, desperation layup 56-54 on the road.
It was a fairly evenly matched game on Tuesday night.
Neither team shot well from long range, but the Stars made twice as many free throws as the Pioneers.
Stephens took a 33-23 lead into halftime, but Crowley's Ridge pulled within four points going into the final quarter.
In the first three minutes of the fourth quarter, the Lady Pioneers went on a 7-0 run to take a 48-45 lead at the 7:08 mark. That run was sparked by an opening three-pointer by Hannah Mauldin. CRC would grow their lead to five points about halfway through the quarter, only to see the lead diminish when Stephens went a head by two with 2:21 to play. Kylie DeVries tied the game again at 54 a piece with 1:08 left on the clock. However, in the final possession of the game, Stars' Mikenna Burnett banked in a short range field goal to defeat Crowley's Ridge 56-54.
Four of the five starters for Stephens scored in the double-digits, led by Mikenna Burnett with 16 points.
The Lady Pioneers were led in scoring by Nakeeva Brandon who etched her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Elly Burrell contributed 12 points and seven rebounds, while Hannah Mauldin had 10 points.
