Pioneer Golf Tees Off In Spartan Spring Invitational- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 4/14/25
Pioneer Golf traveled to St. Louis, MO, to participate in the season's last invitational, hosted by Missouri Baptist University, before taking on the American Midwest Conference tournament on May 5th. MBU's Invitational is scheduled for two rounds of 18 holes over today and tomorrow.
St. Louis, MO- Three Pioneers made the trip to compete in MBU's Spring Invitational. Two familiar faces in senior Walker Hibbs and freshman Hogan Nelson took part, but with freshman Reece Kieffner dealing with a wrist injury, the team added a new swing with freshman Ethan Cotter making his Pioneer Golf debut as the third member of the squad. After today's opening round, senior Walker Hibbs would pace the trio. Hibbs paced the team as the Walnut Ridge, Arkansas native finished +8 on the front half before picking up a sole birdie on the back 9 to end +6, giving him an official scoreboard of +14 for the day and tied for 46th place individually. Texan Hogan Nelson came across second for the Pioneers. Nelson ran through the front 9, finishing +6 over thanks to a birdie on hole 5, but ran into trouble in the back half, picking up a few strokes to land him +18 over par and tied for 62nd place. In his golfing debut, Ethan Cotter showed great perseverance, as the freshman bounced back in the back 9, shaving 5 strokes off his front 9 score, landing him +33 and in 78th place. The trio will tee off in round two tomorrow morning, finishing up their final Spring Invitational. #GOPIONEERS
