Pioneer Golf In Third after 36 holes in the CAC Tournament

Pioneer Golf In Third after 36 holes in the CAC Tournament-Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 4/29/24

At the conclusion of day one, Pioneer Golf sits in the middle of the pack by resting in third place out of six teams in the CAC Championship Tournament. As a team, the Pioneers shaved off 10 strokes in round two, giving the team a total of 620 strokes, being +60 over par after 36 of 54 holes.

Paragould, Ark.- After today's rounds, Creston Sweet and Denton Reiley crossed the finish line nose for nose with both Pioneers ending the day (+9) over par and tied for 7th overall. Sweet, who has proved to be CRC Golf's most consistent player this season, stayed true to his colors as the Jonesboro, AR native shot a 75 in round one and a 74 in round two. On the other hand, freshman Denton Reiley who is competing in his frst CAC Tournament, changed up his play with some intermission adjustments and jumped up seven overall spots to tie Sweet by losing a team-high nine strokes, shooting 70 for even par in his second trip around the course.

Next up for the Pioneers is senior Isaac Langley, the only Pioneer to claim the CAC Golfer of the Week award this season. Langley ran into some adversity on the opening round as the consistent mid-seventy shooter climbed up the scale shooting an 82 before making the much-needed fine-tuning adjustments, dropping a steep eight strokes off his game the second time around, ending with a 74. CRC's captain sits (+12) over par and up five slots to 12th overall.

Junior Walker Hibbs shot his personal best on the Paragould Country Club course in round one by landing in the seventies with a final tally of 79. Still, bitterly, Hibbs would see negative progress on the scorecard being the sole Pioneer to retract steps in the standings as Hibbs ended round two eight strokes heavier. These extra swings were credited to a very unlucky ten-stroke effort on hole number eight in the junior's second go-round. Hibbs sits (+26) over par and down seven spots to 21st overall.

Senior Matthew Crabtree brought in the rear in both rounds with the fifth man shooting an opening 93 before losing six swings and matching Hibb's round two effort with a score of 87. The Bono, AR native sits (+40) over par and up one spot, landing in 26th overall.

"I'm so proud of my fellas for their hearts today. It's no walk in the park to play 36 holes of golf and shoot as well as they did, especially shaving ten strokes off their team total. It makes me excited for tomorrow's final round. I'm one lucky coach!- Adam Meeker
