Golf Ends Fifth Overall In Lyon Spring Invitational- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 3/12/24
As the final curtain closed on Pioneer Golf's first Spring Invitational, the men's team would stay put in their day one position with the team finishing 5th overall shooting a combined +94 over par.
Melbourne, Ark.- Denton Reiley concluded his Pioneer debut by finishing first for the Pioneer squad thanks to his tremendous first day. Reiley would add six strokes to his game but still managed to lead the team as he shot +14 over par in the two-day event. With his day two-stroke addition, Reiley dropped eight spots and finished tied for 12th overall in the invitational. Piggott, Arkansas native Isaac Langley had the biggest turnaround on the team as the senior buckled down on day two and lost seven strokes compared to his day one effort. Langley climbed up the leaderboard as he finished second for the Pioneers and jumped up eleven spots to place 19th individually being +21 over par. Creston Sweet remained consistent with his stoke effort on day two but would drop one place on both the team and overall in the invitational as he picked up an extra swing with his day two score. Sweet closed out the invitational being +25 over par and tied for 25th place overall. Walker Hibbs maintained his fourth-place finish for the Pioneers but would take a big step back as Walker picked up ten more swings on day two. The sophomore finished the invitational +36 over par which dropped him six positions and in 32nd place overall. Matt Crabtree finished last for the five-man team even though the senior had a turnaround on day two by losing two strokes in his second go-round. Crabtree finished shooting +44 over par, dropping him one position and in 36th overall.
Maddie Minyard led the ladies again on day two with the sophomore adding 5 strokes to her game play. With the addition of the extra swings, Minyard dropped 6 places, giving her a final placement of 19th overall being +61 over par. Shelby Razer saw backward progress on day two as the freshman added seventeen strokes to her day one score. Razer finished strong for the Lady Pioneers by ending the tournament in 23rd place.
