Pioneer Golf Finishes Up Battle at Big Creek- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 4-4-23
Mountain Home, Ark.- Pioneer Golf traveled to Mountain Home, Ark. to compete in the Williams Baptist University Spring Invitational hosted at the Battle at Big Creek Country Club. The Men's team wrapped up the two two-day tournaments in 12th place overall and Maddie Minayrd competed representing the Women's team as an Individual where she finished up 47th overall.
Senior Andrew Lee led the Pioneers' shooting in the 80s on both days. Lee found two Birdies over the weekend as he opened with an 84-stroke effort on day one, besting his score on day two by losing 3 swings, and ending day two with an 81 for a total of 165 strokes and tied for 52nd overall.
Freshmen Joseph Ramsey came in second on the team shooting 169 over both days. Ramsey shot an 82 on day one birding once on the front and once more on the back nine, but Ramsey added 5 swings ending day two with an 87-stroke performance. The young Pioneer collected one birdie on day two on hole 14.
Freshmen Bradie Gunther settled in the third overall position on the Pioneer squad. Gunther was the most constant of the Pioneers as he swung an 86 both days, birding twice in the tournament sinking one on hole 5 on day one and one on hole 9 on day two. Gunther ended the two days of play with 172 swings.
Sophomore Creston Sweet finished 4th for the Pioneers as a rough day one effort of shooting a 96 slowed him down, but Sweet rallied a big day two as the Brookland High Schoo Graduate manufactured the best turn-around of the team. On day two Sweet ended with an 84, shaving 12 strokes off his game. The sophomore finished with 2 birdies and 180 strokes in the invitational.
Maddie Minyard teed off alongside the guys in the individual women's bracket at the Battle of Big Creek. Minyard shot consistently over both days shooting a 96 on day one and a 97 on day two. The Armorel, Arkansas native did open day two of play by sinking a birdie on hole 2. Minyard finished tied for 34th overall.
