Golf Wraps Up First Spring Invitational- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 3-7-23
Killen, Alabama- Crowley's Ridge College Men's and Women's golf teed off their spring play with an invitational hosted by Freed-Hardeman University at the Turtle Point Country Club in Killen, AL. Both teams faced an unknown and challenging course as they fought an uphill battle on both days. Both teams improved over the two-day period as the men shaved a team effort of 23 strokes off their score and Minnyard shaved 4 strokes off hers. The Men's Pioneers squad landed in the 7th spot on the leaderboard. Minyard wrapped up the invitational in 28th overall.
Andrew Lee led the Pioneers and had the biggest turnaround on the team shaving 11 strokes off his game. Lee shot a 90 on day one but improved his game to end day two shooting a 79. Lee did sink one birdie in the match on hole 14 on the second day. His overall total of 169 strokes landed him 28th overall.
Joseph Ramsey finished second overall for CRC after leading on day one with 88 strokes. Ramsey also improved his game on day two by shaving 6 strokes off ending the two days with 170 swings and tied for 29th.
Creston Sweet shot 91 on day one but had the second-biggest turnaround on the team. Sweet jumped one slot on the Pioneers scorecard by shaving 9 swings off his day one total. Sweet made par or better on 9 holes in day two ending the two days of play with 173 strokes and in 33rd place overall
Bradie Gunther, the team's newest member, finished second overall for the team on day one by shooting a great front half and finding two birdies on holes 7 and 9. Gunther ran into the rough on back holes 13-17 and ended the day with an 89. On day two, Gunther didn't see any improvement as he added 3 strokes to his total. Gunther finished with 181 strokes ending 35th overall
Women's Golf:
Maddie Minyard traveled alongside the Men's team to compete as an individual in the Women's division. Minyard saw a better back half on day one as she pared on hole 12. On day two Minyard improved her game as she doubled her par efforts and kicked it up a notch to birdie on hole 13. Minyard shaved 4 strokes off her score and ended the spring invitational with 208 strokes and in the 28th overall position.
