Pioneers Wrap Up Series Stalemated With Cougars

Pioneers Wrap Up Series Stalemated With Cougars- Wil Teague, Sports Inforamtion Director, 3/9/26

Game Three:

Crowley's Ridge- 10

Columbia College- 10

Pioneer Park- After dropping both contests to the Courgars in yesterday's doubleheader, the Pioneers would force a stalemate in game three, ending the series with a tie due to rain, lightning storms, and field conditions.

Crowley's Ridge saved their best for last in the matchup against the Cougars as the Pioneers pounded out 13 hits with 2 doubles, 1 triple, and 3 homers to score their 10 runs in the contest. The massive offensive performance helped the Pioneers crawl back to even the score after the Cougars forced an eight-run deficit over CRC by the 6th frame.

CRC used its three logballs effectively as momentum builders in the game, with each coming in a pivotal moment in the contest. Sophomore Lawson Devault sent the first homerun over the fence, crushing an oppo taco down the left field line in the bottom of the first to get the Pioneers on the board. Designated hitter and freshman Crafton Beeler ignited the eight-unanswered-run performance in the bottom half of the sixth with his laser solo shot to left field to get the run-train going; Which led up to the biggest swing of the game from the bat of junior Lucas Peel, who delivered the game-tying run in the bottom of the ninth with a leadoff pinch hit bomb to centerfield. Beeler, junior Parker Gordon, and junior Rilyn Coleman each had two hits in the contest, but the team was paced by junior Aiden Smith, who went 3-4 with 3 RBIs, a double, and a triple. Four Pioneers earned innings with Kamron Isbell getting the start, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) off 8 hits while walking 3 and striking out 4; Scott Trumble took home the most effective reliever award, tossing 3.0 innings and allowing no runs, hits, or walks while retiring 4 in his outing.

"It was a pretty wild ballgame tonight. I'm proud of the way our guys kept competing and didn't quit. We gave up some big swings early, but our offense kept battling and found a way to answer. The big inning in the sixth got us right back in it, and Lucas Peel's homer in the ninth was a huge moment for us. No walks by any reliever today is huge as well!

Obviously, we would've liked to finish it out, but with the weather and the delay, it ended the way it did. I thought we showed a lot of fight, and it says a lot about our group that we kept coming back throughout the game. Hard to be happy about a tie, but it saved us from being swept, which will hopefully help us in conference later in the year."- Head Coach Spencer Adcock

Up Next: The Pioneers will remain in conference play as they travel to St. Louis to face the Hornets of Harris-Stowe State University this Friday and Saturday. #GOPIONEERS
