Pioneers Fall in Conference Opening DH

Pioneers Fall in Conference Opening DH- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 3/8/26

In this afternoon's American Midwest Conference debut matchup against the Cougars of Columbia College, the Pioneers would fall in both contests, with the Cougars' bats overwhelming CRC.

Game One: (7innings)

Crowley's Ridge- 3

Columbia College- 16

Paragould, AR- Columbia College claimed the opening contest by big offensive pushes, including 5 spots in the 4th and 7th frames, which strengthened and then solidified their victory. CRC started hot in the first with sophomore starting pitcher Brayden Mashek fanning two Courgars, and senior Kolby Webb bringing the first run of the series to the plate with an RBI single to left center, but it wouldn't slow CC as the Cougars reclaimed the lead, and would never relinquish it in the top of the second. Sophomore Ricky Requena brought in the second Pioneer run in the bottom of the second, scoring Jax Buttigan with a sacrifice flyout before the Pioneers' offense went cold. Webb drove in the final run for CRC in the last frame, drawing a bases-loaded walk to score Rilyn Coleman and earn the RBI. Webb led the offense, going 1-3 with 2 RBIs. Brayden Mashek took the loss, allowing 8 runs off 7 hits while walking 4 and fanning 7 in 4.0 innings.

Game Two: (8 innings)

Crowley's Ridge- 2

Columbia College- 17

Paragould, AR- Game two, the Pioneers kept things interesting with the Cougars, entering the 6th frame trailing just 4-1, but would see the win zip away from their grasp through Columbia scoring runs over the next three consecutive innings, including a massive 10-run 8th inning to put the game out of reach. Senior James Wilson brought in one of the two Pioneer runs in the contest with an RBI single down the right field line, scoring designated hitter JP Wills in the 2nd frame. Sophomore Reece Bariola brought in the second Pioneer run in the 8th with his sacrifice fly to left field, scoring junior Aiden Smith. Freshman Brennon Burch took the loss, tossing 5.2 innings, allowing 5 runs off 10 hits while walking 3 and striking out 2.

Up Next: The Pioneers will take on the Cougars for one last 9-inning contest tomorrow at 1:00 PM at Pioneer Park. #GOPIONEERS
