Wills Homers Twice Driving in Six in Day One Split
Wills Homers Twice Driving in Six in Day One Split- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 2/6/26
Game One:
Dallas Christian College- 13
Crowley's Ridge College- 9
Dallas, TX- In the Pioneers' opening contest of the four-game series against Dallas Christian this weekend, CRC faced early adversity, being defeated 13-9 in the contest despite out-hitting the Crusaders in the contest ten to nine. Both teams rallied their runs in three-inning frames with the Pioneers scoring theirs in the first, fifth, and seventh innings. In the first, CRC jumped out ahead with Ricky Requena driving in two with his single up the gut, Sophomnoe JP Wills connecting with his first homer in the 5th to drive in two more for the Pioneers, and lastly, an end game rally by the team in green in the top of the 7th where they shoved 5 runs across the plate, highlighted by Wills second long ball of the game, this one being a three run shot. Wishfully, even with the powerful offensive performance, the Crusaders would manage to edge the Pioneers with their three scoring innings being just ever so slightly more effective, seeing 5 cross in the 3rd, 4 in the 4th, and 4 more in the 6th.
The offense was led by Wills, who went (3-4) with 2 HR and 5RBIs. Reece Bariola also went (3-4) with a double. Sophomore Ricky Requena was the final multi-hit Pioneer in the contest with his (2-4) 2RBIs effort. Brennon Burch took the loss on the mound, allowing 5 runs (3 earned) off 2 hits while walking 4 and striking out 2 over 3.0 innings.
Game Two:
Dallas Christian College- 6
Crowley's Ridge College- 10
Dallas, TX- In game two, the Pioneers bounced back and left little doubt this go-round, smashing out their second consecutive contest with double-digit hits (11), while the Pioneer pitching staff limited the Crusaders to just 5 in the matchup. Like game 1, the Pioneers pushed runs across the plate in three frames, this time seeing the first run cross in the top of the third off Kolby Webb's double to left field. CRC scored the bulk of their runs in the top of the fifth, pushing 7 across the plate, thanks to a JP Wills' RBI double and a Kolby Webb 2RBI triple. Lawson Devault brought in the Pioneers' final two runs with his 2 RBI single in the top of the 6th to cap the offensive effort. Senior Kolby Webb led the Pioneers, going (3-3) with two doubles and a triple with 3 RBIs. Wills added a second multi-hit contest to his resume, following up with his (2-4) with a double and an RBI. Ricky Requena was the final Pioneer with two hits as he ended (2-4). Cole Carson earned the win on the mound for CRC, tossing 4.1 innings, allowing 4 runs off 3 hits while walking 3 and striking out 4. Thomas Lamb earned his first save of the year, entering in relief and retiring the final out for the Pioneers.
