Pioneer Baseball hosted Williams Baptist University for the season's home opener at Pioneer Park this afternoon. The Eagles took both contests, overwhelming the Pioneers with a 35-hit day.
Game 1
Crowley's Ridge- 6
Williams Baptist- 20
Paragould, Ark.- The Pioneers performed well for the home crowd at Pioneer Park, putting together 6 runs off 9 hits in game one. Despite the positive start, the Eagles would take the contest countering with a 20-hit game. CRC pushed their runs across the plate early in the game, as freshman Alex Gamez gave the Pioneers their first run with an RBI single to right field in the bottom of the second, cutting the Eagle's lead to two, and a string of Pioneer hits in the third brought in all five of the remaining runs. In the big inning, three Pioneer singles did the job with senior Adonis Thomas bringing in one run with his single and sophomores Parker Gordon and Brylan Honeycutt each bringing in two runs with theirs. But with the Eagles' offensive insurance, WBU swiftly took the game. JackHenry Glasgow took the loss, tossing 2.2 innings. Parker Gordon and Adonis Thomas led the offense with two-hit games. Gordon (2-3) (2RBI) and Thomas (2-4) (2R, RBI).
Game 2
Crowley's Ridge- 4
Williams Baptist- 12
Paragould, Ark.- In game two, Williams Baptist University controlled the matchup, holding the Pioneers scoreless and building up an eight-run lead until a late-game sixth-inning rally by the Pioneers pushed all four of their runs across the plate and cut the Eagles' lead in half. In the bottom of the sixth, CRC scored four runs off two hits with the help of two Eagle bobbles in the field. Sophomore Rilyn Coleman and Junior James Wilson are credited for the big swings this frame with Coleman tripling to right-center field, scoring junior Conner Boan, and Wilson doubling to right-center field scoring senior Blake Wilson. Discouragingly, the productive inning would fall short, and the Eagles would counterattack by tacking on four of their own in the next frame, erasing any Pioneer progress. The Pioneers had six hits as a team, James Wilson and Trey Drake led the team with Drake going (2-4) and Wilson going (2-3) (2B, RBI). Chance Arender took the loss tossing 4.0 innings in the contest.
Up Next: The Pioneers will host WBU tomorrow for the final double-header of the series. Opening pitch is scheduled for 11:00 AM. #GOPIONEERS
