Baseball Splits with Chargers on Day Two

Baseball Splits with Chargers on Day Two- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 4/13/24.

Pioneer baseball wrapped up their three-game series against Southeastern Baptist College by dropping game one before claiming game two, leaving Mississippi victorious.

Game Two:

Crowley's Ridge- 1

Southeastern Baptist- 8

Laurel, MS-  For the second time this series, the Chargers bested the Pioneers as CRC couldn't keep up with Southeastern Baptist's offense. The Chargers held the Pioneers runless for the game in its entirety except for CRC's one run in the sixth. SBC took a 7-0 lead over CRC before a botched fielding error by a Charger infielder in the top of the sixth allowed Brylan Honeycutt's walk to turn into CRC's lone run. The Charges quickly retook their ground, scoring one final run in the bottom frame of the sixth before retiring CRC to end the game. CRC had three hits with Brylan Honeycutt, Kade Lindgren, and Kyle Russell all singling. Chance Arender took his third loss as the junior tossed 4.0 innings, allowing seven runs (six earned) on six hits while walking five and striking out three.

Game Three:

Crowley's Ridge- 8

Southeastern Baptist- 4

Laurel, MS- The Pioneers rallied behind southpaw Andrew Brown in game three and claimed the final contest of the series with a score of 8-4. CRC's offense prevailed over SBC as the Pioneers scored eight runs off eight hits, producing their eight runs in consecutive innings with one in the fourth, three in the fifth, and four in the sixth. JackHenry Glasgow's hard-ground ball in the third allowed CRC to take the lead but Adonis Thomas' big three-run homer to centerfield the following inning would ignite the fire that CRC needed to pick up the win. After Thomas' big swing, CRC never relinquished the lead but only added to their cause by tacking on four more runs in the sixth as Parker Gordon scored one off an RBI walk,  Adonis Thomas collected his fourth RBI with a groundout out to short-stop, and James Wilson's double to center field scored CRC' final two runs. Andrew Brown picked up his third win on the year by going the distance for CRC, allowing five hits, four runs with three walks and four strikeouts.
