Game 1
Ecclesia
Game 2
April 15, 2022
By Dustin Semore, Sports Information Director
PARAGOULD, Ark. – Crowley's Ridge sophomore Jack Roney broke the Pioneer single-season win record with his campaign's fifth victory in a 5-0 game one against Ecclesia (Ark.) College. The excitement was eclipsed in game two when JackHenry Glasgow threw Crowley's Ridge College's first perfect game in a 10-0 win. The day ended with the Pioneers on the losing side of a 6-3 decision to the Royals.
GAME ONE
Ecclesia – 0
Crowley's Ridge – 5
Crowley's Ridge (11-21, 3-0 CAC) waited until the home half of the third inning when slugger Bobby Wright (1) touched a fastball over the left-field wall for his year's first. More importantly, CRC took a 1-0 lead over the Royals (20-17).
Andrew Brown would then lead off the bottom of the fourth with a double, scoring two batters later when Adonis Thomas hit a triple over the head of the centerfielder to give the Pioneers a 2-0 lead.
Jack Roney (5-2) would sit the Royals down in succession to start the fifth inning before his offense put up three runs in the bottom half. Kole Simms drew a walk, followed by Phoenix Beal lacing a single down the left-field line. With the bases loaded after Trey Gossett was hit by a pitch, Andrew Brown reached on a fielder's choice to drive in one run. Thomas would connect for his second extra-base hit of the day: a double that squeaked by the third-base bag to plate two more.
Beal, Thomas, and Wright each tallied two hits while Thomas's three RBIs led the men in green.
GAME TWO
Ecclesia – 0
Crowley's Ridge – 10
The Pioneers (12-21, 3-0 CAC) wasted little time scoring runs, plating at least one in each of the first five innings, highlighted by a five-run fifth.
JackHenry Glasgow's (2-4) unblemished day on the hill saw the Paragould native rely on his defense. The tall righty threw 55 pitches in the win, with only two Ecclesia (20-18) batters being retired on strikes.
After a quick two outs in the bottom of the first, Phoenix Beal was hit by a pitch. Hit courtesy runner, Garett Wilson, promptly swiped second to be driven in thanks to Andrew Brown's double into left field.
With Jackson Imler on base in the second inning with a one-out single, Bobby Wright (2) stroked a pitch to the opposite field for his second long-ball of the day to put the Pioneers on top 3-0.
The bottom of the order struck again in the bottom of the third after Brown drew a leadoff walk followed by a single from Zorey Chipman. After Thomas reached on a fielder's choice, Imler singled into left field to plate both Brown and Chipman. Chipper Lamb joined the hit party, driving home Thomas with a single. Kole Simms drove in a pair of runs to wrap up the scoring with a single to left. Crowley's Ridge exploded to an 8-0 lead in the bottom of the third.
Chipman would add another single in the bottom of the fourth inning, moving all the way to second after a pair of Royal balks. Chipman would come streaking down the line on a wild pitch to score CRC's ninth run.
Lamb would take advantage of two Ecclesia errors in the fifth inning to plate the 10th and final Pioneer run.
Imler's three singles led Crowley's Ridge's offense, followed by Chipman's two hits.
GAME THREE
Ecclesia – 6
Crowley's Ridge – 3
The Pioneers (12-22, 3-0 CAC) could not make it a trifecta of wins in the final game of the day when Ecclesia (21-18) rained on the Pioneer parade with a 6-3 final.
In the bottom of the third inning, Phoenix Beal drew a two-out walk. His courtesy runner, Garett Wilson, was off and running when a Royal throwing error allowed the junior to burn rubber from first to home to score CRC's first run of the day's finale.
After Chipper Lamb singled up the middle of the bottom of the fourth inning, Bobby Wright (3) blasted his third home run in as many games deep into the woods beyond the left-field fence.
Kaden Hargrove (0-5) was charged with the loss as the Pioneers were unable to muster any more runs.
Six different Pioneers were credited with the six CRC hits in game three.
