FORT WORTH, Texas – Crowley's Ridge College baseball played their first contests since March 19th by returning to the Lone Star State for a four-game set with the Arlington Baptist (Texas) University Patriots. CRC came home empty-handed after falling 10-9 and 14-2 on Friday before dropping games three and four 13-10 and 2-0.
Game One
Crowley's Ridge – 9
Arlington Baptist – 10
The first high-scoring affair saw Crowley's Ridge (7-16, 0-0 CAC) plate four runs in the opening frame. Two runs were scored without the bat hitting the ball after Andrew Brown drew a bases-loaded walk followed by Austin Gross getting hit by a pitch. Zorey Chipman started a four-RBI day with a single to plate Brown and Phoenix Beal.
The hosting Arlington Baptist (13-14) Patriots answered with a four-run bottom of the inning.
Garett Wilson (running for Beal's base on balls) came around to score in the top of the second inning thanks to Gross reaching on an error before Chipman drove home John Grace, Jr. with an RBI single.
With the bases loaded in the top of the seventh, Crowley's Ridge saw Grace, Jr. hit by a pitch to plate a run to draw the Pioneers within one run. A strikeout and a fielder's choice stranded the tying run at third for a 10-9 final.
Jack Roney (3-2) put up three innings on work in the loss, striking out two.
Chipman hit everything in sight, going 4-for-5 and driving in four runs. Bobby Wright tallied three hits, while Kole Simms collected two hits.
Game Two
Crowley's Ridge – 2
Arlington Baptist – 14
It was a 10-run fifth inning that doomed Crowley's Ridge (7-17, CAC) who again scored the first run of the game. After Zorey Chipman walked to lead off the second inning, Chipper Lamb's fielder's choice plated Chipman.
After Phoenix Beal was hit by a pitch, the senior hustled around the bases on Trey Gossett's double to score CRC's second run.
Arlington Baptist (14-14) plated 10 runs on eight hits in the bottom of the fifth inning to put the game out of reach for the Pioneers.
Jackson Imler (0-1) was charged with the loss in his second start of the season.
Five different Pioneers collected hits in game two, with Gossett's double joined by Chipman, Nick Garrett, Austin Gross, and Kole Simms's singles.
Game Three
Crowley's Ridge – 10
Arlington Baptist – 13
After a night's rest, Crowley's Ridge (7-18, 0-0 CAC) came out strong in the start of game three when Phoenix Beal's double placed Kole Simms on third base, easily scoring on Trey Gossett's ensuing groundout. Beal would later touch home plate thanks to Andrew Brown's RBI single.
Arlington Baptist (15-15) woke up on the right side of the bed, plating eight runs in the home half of the first inning, followed by a three-run second.
The Pioneers would add two runs in the top of the fourth inning when Zorey Chipman's one-out single finished with Bobby Wright driving his classmate home. Simms followed with an RBI single to plate Chipper Lamb.
CRC's best comeback effort was made in the top of the fifth inning when Gossett scored thanks to Adonis Thomas's RBI single. Tanner Davis would then tap the plate due to a fielding error that extended the inning. That extension proved helpful for the Pioneers when Wright blasted a double into left field to plate both Lamb and Thomas.
Despite Davis's two-run single in the top of the sixth, Crowley's Ridge ultimately fell in the high-scoring affair 13-10.
Kaden Hargrove (0-4) punched out four batters in the losing effort.
In his first batting start, Thomas collected two hits, joining Beal, Chipman, and Davis with a multi-hit game.
Game Four
Crowley's Ridge – 0
Arlington Baptist – 2
In a complete change from the high-scoring series, the finale was a pitcher's duel that combined for seven hits.
Crowley's Ridge (7-19, 0-0 CAC) sent JackHenry Glasgow (0-4) to the bump in the complete-game loss.
Trey Gossett, Adonis Thomas, and Bobby Wright each collected hits in the two-run affair.
