PARAGOULD, Ark. – On a beautiful day for baseball in Northwest Arkansas, Crowley's Ridge College and Randall (Okla.) University traded wins. The Pioneers bested the Saints in game one 5-3 before the Saints answered with a 7-4 win.
Game One
Randall – 2
Crowley's Ridge – 5
The Pioneers (5-6, 0-0 CAC) put runs on the board in the late innings to earn a 5-2 victory over the Saints. Jack Roney (2-0) tossed a gem from the hill, throwing 81 pitches in a complete game – 55 of which were in the strike zone.
After Randall (2-9) jumped to an early lead, Crowley's Ridge took advantage of a surprise double steal in the bottom of the third inning. Noah Overshine and Zorey Chipman both took off from second and third, respectively, and the throw from the catcher sailed into left field to allow Overshine to touch home plate to tie the game 1-1.
Trey Gossett would lead off the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring on Chipper Lamb's sacrifice fly. Kole Simms continued the carousel on the bases by singling home Garett Wilson in the bottom of the sixth.
The Pioneers put the game out of reach when Zorey Chipman laced a double down the left-field line to plate Matthew Parker and Jackson Imler. A seventh-inning score by the Saints would finish the scoring with the Pioneers on top 5-2.
Game Two
Randall – 7
Crowley's Ridge –4
It was a big second inning for Randall (3-9) that put the game out of reach in a hurry for the men in green. Three consecutive singles off of starter Zorey Chipman (0-2) got the ball rolling in favor of the Saints. The guests scored five runs, all in successive order before the Pioneers closed the third out with a strikeout.
The Pioneers (5-7, 0-0 CAC) added a run of their own in the bottom of the first inning when Noah Overshine's walk turned into a run thanks to Matthew Parker's sacrifice fly. Chipper Lamb would take advantage of a wild pitch in the fifth inning to score the Pioneers' second run.
A two-base error by the Saints set up Kole Simms into scoring position to start the bottom of the sixth inning. The next pitch was launched into right-center field by Parker, allowing Simms to score and Parker to advance to second on the throw. Courtesy running for Parker, Garett Wilson swiped third base, and then scored on a wild pitch.
The late push by the men in green was too little and too late, as the Saints evened the day with a 7-4 victory.
Chipper Lamb and Matthew Parker both tallied two hits in the loss.
