PARAGOULD, Ark. - Tied for the program record for hits, Nate Finney (SR/Oran, Mo.) sent the first pitch he saw of game two whistling over the left-field fence for career hit number 148. The celebration had to wait with stormclouds rolling in to pause game two of the four-game set with Lincoln Christian (Ill.) University, but Saturday morning the Pioneers picked up the victory 17-9.
Lincoln Christian - 9
Crowley's Ridge - 17
The Red Lions (7-8) started things off with a bang when James White jumped on CRC starter Zorey Chipman (JR/Wilson, Ark.)'s offering with a solo shot to give LCU a 1-0 lead before the Pioneers picked up a bat.
Finney's long ball made the lead short-lived, which was followed by Bobby Wright (JR/Sikeston, Mo.) singling home Noah Overshine (JR/Jonesboro, Ark.) with Trey Gossett (SO/Piggott, Ark.) tagging behind to give Crowley's Ridge (17-17) a 3-0 advantage.
A pair of singles trailed by errors sparked a five-run inning for the Red Lions. The Pioneers answered with a five-spot of their own in the bottom of the second inning thanks in part to five defensive miscues from the Red Lions ended the second with CRC up 8-6.
The Red Lions were able to plate two runs before a storm cell halted play on Friday with two outs in the top of the fourth inning tied 8-8.
Knowing that CRC and LCU would play two and a half games on Saturday, Corbett Seib (JR/Poplar Bluff, Mo.) decided to put an end to the thoughts of continuing the close game by hitting a three-run homer to give CRC an 11-8 lead. Chipper Lamb (JR/Melbourne, Ark.) followed with a triple, later scoring to give CRC a six-run fourth inning. With three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, Crowley's Ridge put the game out of reach with a 17-9 win.
Though Finney needed one hit to break the CRC hits record, the senior tallied four base knocks. Wright totaled three hits, followed by Austin Gross (JR/Van Buren, Ark.) and Phoenix Beal (JR/Advance, Mo.) earning two. Gross drove in a game-high four RBI.
Kern Kline (FR/Lepanto, Ark.) pitched for Crowley's Ridge on Saturday, earning the victory by allowing one run and one hit.
