COLUMBUS, Miss. - Despite taking early leads in the series finale doubleheader against the Mississippi University for Women, the Pioneers fell victim to late rallies by the hosting Owls. CRC fell in the first game 2-1 before dropping the final game of the weekend 8-5.

GAME ONE

Crowley's Ridge - 1

Mississippi University for Women - 2

Two pitchers stood on the hill in the entirety of the first game with Crowley's Ridge (9-10) southpaw Zorey Chipman taking the ball. Chipman's Owl counterpart, Logan Suggs tossed a complete game, striking out 11 Pioneers.

Nate Finney led off the day with a single, scoring CRC's lone run off of a throwing error from MWU (11-3) shortstop Heath Ford.

On the other side of the field, Chipman was the epitome of efficiency, throwing an 84 pitch complete game. Chipman's first challenge came in the fifth inning when a leadoff double loaded the bases for the Owls with one out. A force play at the plate and a strikeout would see the lefty skate free of the leadoff extra-base hit.

The Owls would wait until the sixth inning to score their first runs of the game, but those runs proved to be the difference with the final out being recorded for a 2-1 MUW win.

The Pioneers had four hits, led by Brady Becerra's two knocks.

GAME TWO

Crowley's Ridge - 5

Mississippi University for Women - 8

Once again waiting until the waning moments of the game, the MUW (12-3) Owls used a six-run sixth inning to steal a victory in game two.

The Pioneers (9-11) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning with Trey Gossett able to swipe home on a wild pitch after reaching base with a leadoff single. Corbett Seib and Zorey Chipman would pick up the second and third runs with an RBI single from Kern Kline followed by a sacrifice fly from Nate Finney.

The score remained unchanged until CRC added a run in the fifth inning after consecutive singles from Garett Wilson and Finney to jump ahead 4-0.

The Owls would then start the hit carousel, scoring two runs in the fifth inning before exploding for a six-run six-hit sixth inning to leap to an 8-4 lead. The Pioneers cut into the lead in the top of the seventh, scoring a run thanks to an Owl error, but could not add to their total falling 8-5.

CRC outhit MUW 10 hits to nine with Finney, Wilson, and Bobby Wright all getting two hits. Finney added two RBIs to his season total.

Andrew Brown relieved Jackson Imler, but Brown earned the loss after giving up five runs in one-third of an inning of work.
